THE FARMER'S SON CO. RUG STORY.
When I was a kid I used to tag along with my dad and grandpa anytime they'd go to a farm auction. I wasn't interested in the tractors or whatever bins of old machine parts were for sale. I wasn't a normal kid. I was that kid who was fascinated by whatever objects were being pulled out of those old farmhouses after 40 or 50 years (if not longer) of the same family living there, being loaded up on a hay trailer and then pulled into the middle of the yard to sell off. Years of memories and a pile of old Tupperware going to the highest bidder.
I remember one sale that had a pile of old wool rugs. My mom wisely said no when I asked if could bid on all of them (they were pretty motheaten and what 12 year old needs a pile of rugs?), but they sealed my love with these pieces and wanting to know more about them. Each decades (if not more) old, each with a story of their own.
I love their versaility and how timeless they look regardless of how you choose to style your home. Whether mid-century's your thing, you're all about that farmhouse vibe or your place lands somewhere inbetween, we can all agree that a beautiful vintage hand-knotted rug is the way to go.
Having sourced and collected a number of pieces for my own home over the past few years, I'm ready to share this love and these artul pieces with you.
This is something new for Farmer's Son Co. so I'm going to walk before we run. Working with my second generation Canadian based rug & carpet contacts, I have chosen a small selection of pieces to offer within our new concept shoppe. Each piece has been carefully sourced by our contact who works primarily seeks out pieces from Turkey and Iran. Pieces are professionally cleaned, restored or repaired when needed and have received an appraised value. In addition, our contacts use their expertise to advise the exact region / province where a piece has been produced, allowing for further research.
As this is something very new and out of leftfield for Farmer's Son Co., we will gauge interest before moving forward with addition on-hand inventory or extended sizing in our shoppe. However, we welcome your custom sourcing inquiries.
I can't wait to show you these artful pieces the next time you swing by our shoppe to explore or pickup your order, something for your self or a gift for a pal.
D-
THE FARMER'S SON CO. PHILOSOPHY.
SUSTAINABILITY: Our goal is to breathe new life into beautiful vintage & antique rugs that can be revived by professional cleaning and repairs. We love that handmade rugs have been crafted to last generations & we're glad to be part of a system where we can reduce waste and encourage quality over quantity. In a consumerist society which tells us that what we need more and we need it cheap, we are glad to offer another option of quality and thoughtfulness. Machine-made rugs are often produced with unethical practices and they only last a few years. All of our rugs are decades old.
HONESTY: The world of rugs can be murky and hard to navigate. All too often, we see that people are misled about the value, origin, or details of the rugs that we are interested in. We want to provide you with a sense of ease knowing that we along with our second generation Canadian based rug & carpet contacts have done their homework. We are always growing our knowledge base, and will always be upfront about whether rugs are handmade/ machine-made, naturally-dyed/ synthetically-dyed, old/ new, worn or not, and will always give a fair price based on inherent value.
RETAIL: We offer each of our rugs at a retail that is fair for the age, quality and condition of each piece. We believe that our rugs will only hold their value and appreciate over time. Please note that as we are just establishing this area of our business, we do have trade or volume programs in place. Should you be a designer or trade professional interested in working with us, please do not hesitate to reach out. We'd love to assist.

A NOTE ABOUT CONDITION.
Each Farmer's Son Co. rug is vintage or antique, meaning that it's often lived a long and storied life. Due to the quality of their original craftsmanship, they age well and become more beautiful with time. However, because they're handmade, each rug will have imperfections and wear, including slight variance to width and length. This is a common result in handmade pieces, and is part of what makes them unique and true works of art. Our rugs will have wear related to years of life, which we think makes them more beautiful. We do our best to explain the condition of each rug but please reach out if you'd like more information or additional photos or a video.
We've handpicked each of our rugs and would confidently enjoy them in our own home, and wouldn't want anything less for you as a Farmer's Son Co. client. Each rug has been professionally cleaned, repaired where necessary and appraised.
Rug colours may vary from the photos due to variables (time of day, direction of the nap, etc). We aim to accurately portray each rug and are more than happy to share additional details should you require.
