Some days don’t unfold the way we expect. When that happens, I still catch myself doing something I started as a kid. I close my eyes for a moment and think about one particular place.
Just north of the farm where I grew up there’s a pasture that's stayed with me. A small lake sits along the edge of a pasture and the hills roll gently around it. As a boy I spent hours wandering those hills, pushing through the scrub and grasses that moved with the wind. Across the water stand two old spruce trees along the far shoreline, quiet and steady.
After a summer rain that place always felt different. The sky seemed impossibly blue. The earth smelled green and alive. Everything felt calm in a way that’s hard to explain unless you’ve stood in a field like that and just let the prairie stretch around you.
Life moves on and some places become memories instead of somewhere you can return to. I don't get out there much anymore, but that pasture still lives clearly in my mind. When I need a moment to slow down, that’s often where my thoughts wander.
Wild Heather brings me back to that hillside. Mossy, woody notes of heather mingle with the green, earthy character of milk thistle, creating a scent that feels grounded, fresh and quietly familiar. Every time I light it, I’m reminded of that pasture and the calm it still brings.
